Summer Camp

South Eugene Rowing Club’s Summer Rowing Camp 2021

Open to all incoming 8th-12th Graders

We offer rowing camp for both experienced rowers and those new to rowing who want to explore a new sport. No experience is necessary for our learn-to-row camps. All you need is a positive attitude and a willingness to try something new.

We're also always looking for coxswains ("the brains of the boat"). Coxswains steer the boat, help run drills, and execute strategy during races. It's a critical job in rowing and is perfect for anyone who likes to be the boss. You don't need to be athletic, but you do need to want to be part of a team. You can learn more about what coxswains do and contact [email protected] if you're interested in this position. Discounts for camp are available for coxswains.

Sessions 1 & 2 (Experienced rowers):
Sculling Focus. That's rowing with 2 oars. Rowers will have the opportunity to learn to scull in all 3 boat classes.
- June 21-25 & June 28-July 2nd, 8am - 12pm
- $150 per-session
- Bus transportation available for an additional fee

Sessions 3 & 4 (Experienced rowers):
Sweep Focus. That's rowing with 1 oar.  Rowers will have the opportunity to participate in all 3 sweep boat classes.
- July 12th-16th & July 19th-23, 8am - 12pm
- $150 per-session
- Bus transportation available for an additional fee

Sessions 5 & 6 (Novice & Experienced rowers):
Novices will learn to row. Experienced rowers will work with novices and also have plenty of opportunities to spend time in varsity boats.
- July 26th-30th & August 2nd-6th
- Camp will run from 8am - 2pm
- $250 per-session ($150 for experienced rowers* - please see note below)
- Bus transportation to Dexter Lake from South Eugene High School included

In our learn-to row camps, you will learn skills for competitive rowing while enjoying beautiful summer days on the water. This summer camp is a great introduction to the Eugene-based regional club team, South Eugene Rowing Club, serving young adults from all area schools in the south Willamette Valley. It is also a great opportunity to build rewarding bonds and teamwork skills.

All rowers attending either of the "novice" camps will receive camp t-shirts along with great summer memories. Camp is open to anyone entering 8th – 12th grade. No previous athletic experience is necessary.

All sessions are held on Dexter Lake at the Lowell State Park. Bus transportation from South Eugene High School is included.

We will be following COVID-19 procedures. Please read about our procedures.

*To be an experienced rower, you must have rowed at least one full season with South Eugene Rowing Club or recieved special permission from Head Coach Jamie.
